A Theatrical Installation BY B. Lynch

OCTOBER 13, 2020 - FEBRUARY 5, 2021
Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Art Gallery

Welcome to a New Gilded Age!

You have entered into a time-bending world created by artist B. Lynch, inhabited by the opposed factions of Reds and Greys. Privileged and powerful, the Reds absorb and consume all of the wealth and mobility. Meanwhile, the oppressed Greys struggle in a post-apocalyptic landscape to make ends meet. The archetypal characters, created by Lynch, appear in various guises and scenes -- read on to meet the cast of characters!

As B. Lynch creates the characters, they take on their own motivations, interacting with and affecting one another. The media generates from within the world itself -- a character creates a miniature puppet theater, which spawns a large-scale puppet theater, and then a puppet drama, which appears in a short video. The many parts reference and develop each other, aggregating to produce a multivalent commentary on the corrosive nature of income and power disparity. With this playful yet satirical presentation, B. Lynch’s world holds a mirror to our own, wherein you must examine your desires, prejudices, and behaviors that perpetuate entrenched systems of conflict and inequity. We hope that you will engage deeply, and enjoy!
